The release of BERG 9 introduces a new dimension to the output of the British Experimental Rocket Group.

 

It has been many years since the remaining members of the culture branch of the British Experimental Rocket Group teamed up with The Committee For Sonic Research to track down and rescue archive material from this secretive organisation to create material of releasable quality and finally establish a record of their work.

 

As time passed the project developed and BERG members grew comfortable with TCFSR handling of the archive material. As a result of enquiries about the use of the BERG archives members of The Committee For Sonic Research and the British Experimental Rocket Group combined to create new material to take advantage of the huge changes and developments to electronic music creation that has occurred since both groups were originally active during the last century.

 

Although core members of BERG and TCFSR retain an oversight of the newer project, which continues under the BERG name, creative membership has been fluid, with different combinations at a variety of times and locations (much like the way that the culture branch of the British Experimental Rocket Group functioned originally, due to the need for secrecy at the time).

 

Modern BERG has developed in to what could be described as an ‘art collective’ that produce and exhibit physical and digital artworks in galleries, print and online resources separate to the music. More pertinent to the album releases on TCFSR, BERG also provides audio and sonic accompaniment to visual art installations around the world such as drone events, pyrotechnic displays and other types of mass public entertainment events at art centres, science fairs and music festivals.

 

BERG 9 is the first release to formally include audio from the newer project. This and future releases will not differentiate between ‘new’ and archive BERG material although some indication can be gleaned from material that is dated.
